Higher Order Thinking (HOT) Schools is a program of the Connecticut State Department of Economic & Community Development, Office of the Arts. ©2015 HOT Schools™
Site designed and hosted by WORX.
At Pleasant Valley HOT school, fifth grade students are selected to participate in a Peer Mediation program which allows students to be trained in and practice the art of conflict resolution. Participants will experience the process of training all fifth graders in peer mediation, the selection process for the official "Peer Mediators" and answer questions about some of the speed bumps and obstacles the program has faced. By giving students the CHOICE of how to solve a problem and allowing students a VOICE in helping others, Democratic Practice becomes a key facet in the Peer Mediation process. The day will begin with an overview of the HOT Approach to arts integrated teaching and learning and provide an opportunities to observe in classrooms and hear student reflections on their experiences as Peer Mediators.
