Site designed and hosted by WORX.
Visitors are welcome anytime between 8:30AM and 2:00PM for an informal exploration and observation of IDCS HOT School in action. IDCS is housed in the original Thermos Factory. Open spaces, numerous windows and unique wall colors contribute to a creative environment which supports a HOT School focus. Visitors are welcome to walk through the school, visiting classrooms and asking questions. There are colorful examples of artistic student work and projects are evident throughout. Arts integration units, unique student research projects and student artistic creations permeate every floor. On Thursday, November 16th, visitors will have the opportunity to observe resident artist Gabrielle Zane, currently working with three 4/5 classes focusing on a social studies unit, integrated with the performing arts and writing from the Native American perspective. The residency will culminate in a Spoken Word student performance. Ms. Zane will teach in each of the 4/5 classrooms for one hour from 8:30 until 11:50.
Our second and third grade classes have just completed an integrated unit on weather, writing and art. Critically examining science concepts, specifically climate change, students have written a “Small Moment Story” and created artistic place mats using sewing techniques and the applique process. As you explore our middle school, please note the murals that have been created in i-Math classes using mathematical formulas and concepts. Feel free to wander and ask questions. The vibrancy of the arts in visible in every corner our school.
